The 70 meter long, 3580 dwt ro-ro ferry Sanduga became disabled in the Sea of Japan. The Sanduga was sailing from Busan, South Korea to Vladivostok, Russia loaded with vehicles when it suffered a mechanical failure. Unable to fix the fault, the master of the vessel requested assistance. The ferry Ryofu, owned by the same company as the Sanduga, responded to the scene and took the Sanduga under tow. After a few hours, the towline broke and the vessels were unable to reconnect the line. The owners contacted the salvage vessel Lazurit which arrived later and took the Sanduga under tow to Vladivostok. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
Sadko Ashore
The 29 meter long, 220 dwt tug Sadko went ashore on the western side of the Kamchatka Peninsula near the Tigil River. The Sadko was towing barges loaded with food andSad building materials from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Palana when it was caught in a storm. The towline to the barges broke and got caught in the propeller disabling the tug. The Sadko drifted until it was blown ashore. Two of the seven crew was injured. Authorities dispatched a helicopter to the scene, but has been rescue has been delayed due to the severe weather. Reports state the crew was able to prevent any fuel from being spilled.
Sunmore Disabled
The 80 meter long, 2000 dwt freighter Sunmore became disabled off Bodo, Norway. The freighter had suffered engine failure and began to drift towards shore. The vessel contacted authorities who dispatched a rescue boat to the scene. The rescue boat took the Sunmore under tow and proceeded safely to Bodo. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
