Submarine Adrift

A remote controlled mini submarine went adrift in the swallow waters off Den Helder, Netherlands.  The submarine was being towed by a naval tug when the towline broke allowing it go adrift.  The submarine drifted into waters too shallow for the tug to proceed.  The tug contacted the KNRM who dispatched a lifeboat from Helder to the scene.  The lifeboat crew were able to locate the submarine and attach a towing cable then proceeded to tow it into deeper water.  The sub was then transferred back to the navy tug.   No reported injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Super Shuttle Ferry 17

The ferry Super Shuttle Ferry 17 became disabled while off Danao City and Camotes Island, Philippines.  The ferry had suffered engine failure and required assistance.  A sister ferry, Super Shuttle Ferry 14, responded to the scene.  The Ferry 14 took the Ferry 17 under tow back to Danao City.  The 82 passengers and 17 crew were on board at the time of the incident.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Shiv Sagar Lost

The 65 meter long freighter Shiv Sagar was reported lost in the Gulf of Aden near the coast of Dhofar, Oman.  The vessel was heading for Salalahwhen it encountered strong winds and rough seas.   Reports state the vessel capsized and sank.  The vessel was able to make a distress call alerting the Oman Coast Guard.   The Coast Guard was able to rescue six crewmen. Four crewmen bodies were recovered with another five men still reported as missing.   The rescued men were taken to hospital and later transferred to a police station.  The crew reported that the vessel sank quickly allowing no time to prepare the lifeboats.
