On August 14, the 247 meter long, 114439 dwt tanker Tenacity Venture (IMO:9773052) became disabled on the Bosphorus near Kandilli, Turkey. The Tenacity Venture was headed for Romania from Gibraltar with a cargo of 90,730 tons of crude oil when it suffered engine failure in the strait. The tanker contacted Turkish authorities who dispatched the tugs Kurtarma-5 (IMO: 9463164), Kurtarma-8 (IMO: 9598610) and Kurtarma-11 (IMO: 9854399) to assist. Escorted by Kurtarma-8, the Tenacity Venture was towed to an anchorage off Büyükdere where it was assisted by Kurtarma-5 and Kurtarma-11.

No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  During the incident, traffic was halted temporarily in the Bosphorus.

On the evening of August 7, the 137 meter long, 13340 dwt cargo vessel Tali (IMO: 9173692) caught fire in the North Sea northwest of Feistein Fyr, Norway. The Tali was headed for Tau from Cuxhaven in ballast when a fire broke out in the engine room. The vessel alerted Norwegian authorities who dispatched a team of fire fighters from Sola to assist the crew. Fire fighters arrived on the vessel an hour later to find the situation under control.  The crew had triggered the onboard fire suppression system and closed off the engine room.  However, the fire damage was extensive requiring the Tali to request a tow.  The tugs Boa Balder (IMO: 9462342) and BB Coaster (IMO: 9502685) arrived early the next day and took the Tali under tow to Stavanger. Authorities have not stated the cause of the fire. One of the 14 crew members on board suffered smoke inhalation and was flown back ashore for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire.  The incident is under investigation.

Triangle

On the late night of August 3, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Triangle (MMSI: 244710133) caught fire on theMarkermeer near Oostvaardersdijk, Lelystad, Netherlands. The Triangle was en route to Schokkerhaven when a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room. The fire produced large amounts of smoke and could not be extinguished by the 6 crew on board. The Triangle requested assistance with the local fire brigade along with the KNRM responding. Several fire engines along with a KNRM lifeboat arrived on site to help fight the blaze. Their combined effort had the fire extinguished in just a short period of time.

Reports stated the fire had caused damage to the engine room and there was initial concern the engine would be inoperable.  However, the Triangle was able to proceed under its own power a few hours later.  Authorities did not state if any there were any injuries caused by the incident. The cause of the fire has not been released.
