The 378 dwt coaster cargo vessel Yicel ran aground near Limon, Costa Rica. The small cargo vessel had suffered a leak with the pumps on board were unable to control the water ingress. The master decided to beach the Yicel before the cargo vessel sank. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the vessel will make repairs and be towed to the nearest port for surveys.

Yu Tong 1

The 97 meter long cargo vessel Yu Tong 1 sank near Huilai, Guangdong, China. The Yu Tong 1 was headed to Jieyang from Maoming with 5000 tons of iron ore when it was hit by stormy weather. The Yu Tong 1 began to take on water by the heavy seas.  The vessel’s pumps were unable to control the flooding and the Yu Tong 1 developed a list.  Fearing the cargo vessel would capsize, the 14 crew alerted authorities and abandoned ship.

Two tugs along with 5 other vessels assisted in a search and rescue operation. Reports state all 14 crew were later rescued.

Yue Dian 57

The 190 meter long, 56692 dwt bulk carrier Yue Dian 57 collided with the 40 meter long patrol vessel Zhongguohaijing 3062 near Nei Island in the Pearl River estuary, Guangdong, China. The bulk carrier was headed to Tianjin from Guangzhou when it struck the patrol vessel. The Zhongguohaijing 3062 capsized  and sank sending the eight crew into water.  Local fishermen were able to rescue all eight crew. No reports of injuries.

The Yue Dian 57 dropped anchor near the incident site. Authorities quickly dispatched a salvage team to the scene. A barge with a crane was able to raise the patrol vessel.

Reports state the Zhongguohaijing 3062 was engage in monitoring the area for illegal fishing. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
