On the afternoon of October 12, the 190 meter long, 56,648 dwt bulk carrier Alonissos (IMO: 9566916) ran aground on the Paraná River south of Rosario at General Lagos Harbour, Argentina. The Alonissos had loaded some 37000 tons of soybean at San Lorenzo when it ran aground while doing an anchoring maneuver.

The Alonissos remained aground for three days until on October 15 the bulk carrier was freed by three tugs. Authorities reported the Alonissos had exceeded the maximum draft of 9.97 meters by 0.2 meters.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On the afternoon of October 18, 2024, the 41 meter long, 194 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Grigory Lovtsov (IMO:8974922) capsized in the Sea of Okhotsk off the Sakhalin Island, Russia. The Grigory Lovtsov was loaded with gravel and sand when it lost stability and rolled over. Three of the crew on board the vessel were thrown into sea while another four on board were reported as missing. The three crew were pulled from the water by a rescue helicopter.  One of the crew was injured and later taken to hospital.

Authorities have launched a search and rescue operation. A rescue boat aided by two tugboats are currently looking for the missing four crew.  Initial reports state the cargo vessel may have been overloaded at the time.  A report states the other 2 crew rescued perished from the incident suggesting there may be only a sole survivor from the capsizing. The incident is under investigation.

The Grigory Lovtsov had been in a prior incident. The vessel got stuck in the ice back in 2022 requiring evacuation.

On October 17, the 141 meter long, 12193 dwt container ship Peyton Lynn C (IMO: 9295531)  allided with the lock wall on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Peyton Lynn C was headed for Fredericia from Hamburg when it entered the new south lock at .  While moored in the lock, the boxship struck the wall in the lock. The vessel remained detained for an hour while the incident was investigated and found no significant damage. The Peyton Lynn C was allowed to proceed on with its voyage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
