On the afternoon of October 15, the 302 meter long, 79423 dwt container ship One Maneuver ran aground on the bramble bank  just outside Southampton, England. The boxship had just left Southampton bound for Rotterdam when it lost power and ran up on the sandbank. Unable to free itself the boxship requested assistance. Multiple tugs arrived on scene and were able to refloat the One Maneuver.  The vessels proceeded to the south-east of the Isle of Wight where the One Maneuver anchored.  The vessel was later inspected by divers for any damage.  The divers find one of the vessel’s ballast tanks had been breached.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On the night of October 13, the 41 meter long, 389 gt fishing vessel Armana (IMO: 5024611) caught fire on the South Atlantic Ocean 60 nautical miles south of Gansbaai on the Western Cape, South Africa. Unable to contain the blaze and fearing the 62 year old fishing vessel was likely to sink, the 20 crew on board abandoned the fishing trawler into 2 life rafts. The nearby fishing vessel Ludwani was able to safely rescue all 20 crew without incident.

Authorities state the Armana remained afloat until the following day when it finally sank.  The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) has launched an investigation into the incident. The source of the fire was not reported.

On the afternoon of October 16, the 38 meter long ro-ro ferry Breitling (MMSI: 211624750) allided with the ferry dock on the Warnow River at Hohe Düne, Germany. The Breitling had made the four minute crossing from Warnemünde loaded with passengers and vehicles when it suffered engine failure as it approached the dock at Hohe Düne. Unable to slow down, the ferry struck the dock was some force. One person on board was seriously injured along with two others who were only slightly injured. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

The Breitling was taken out of service for repairs while the water police conducted an investigation into the incident.  Reports state the ferry was cleared to resume service later that evening after completing a test run. Authorities have stated the engine failure was due to a technical error.  Reports did not include if the Breitling sustained damage or if any pollution was released from the incident.
