The 73 meter long, 2080 dwt cargo vessel KM Tradisi 8 capsized and sank while berthed at the port of Gresik, Indonesia.  The vessel was undergoing maintenance and repair opperations when the vessel lost stability and capsized and partially sank with the port side hull above water. Thirteen of the 14 people on board were rescued by workers and local authorities. One person was reported as missing. Booms were placed around KM Tradisi 8 to contain any pollution released. Reports state that local authorities have launched an investigation and found the KM Tradisi 8 had suffered hull fractures resulting in water ingress.

Long Hao 1

On October 22, the 190 meter long cargo vessel Xin Zhou 18 collided with the 69 meter long cargo vessel Long Hao 1 on the Yangtze River near Zhenjiang, China. The Xin Zhou 18 was proceeding to Caofeidan from Zhenjiang in ballast when it struck the Long Hao 1 which was loaded with 2700 tons of sand. The Long Hao 1 capsized and rolled over after the collision. Reports state 3 crew of the Long Hao 1 were later rescued by a nearby fishing vessel.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Salvage of the Long Hao 1 was reported to have started.

On October 20, the 26 meter long wooden fishing vessel Jorge Seif Junior capsized and sank off Imbituba, Brazil. The trawler with 24 crew on board had lost stability while fishing in bad weather with strong winds and waves reaching 5 meters high. Nearby vessels were alerted by the trawler’s EPIRB and responded to the distress call. The 153 meter long cargo vessel BBC Citrine was first to be on scene and rescued 18 crew from the water. The BBC Citrine proceeded to head for Itaguai while other vessels searched for the remaining 6 crew of the Jorge Seif Junior. Reports state that one crew man rescued from the water died from injuries before reaching Itaguai.
