Wan Hai 162

The 159 meter long, 17697 dwt container ship Wan Hai 162 collided with two fishing vessels off Japan in Osaka Bay.  The two fishing vessels capsized spilling out the four crewmen into the water.   Three crew were rescued from the water while one remains missing.  The survivors were taken to hospital for treatment where one later perished a short time later.   No reports of injuries or damage on the Wan Hai 162.   Japanese authorities have launched an investigation into incident.

The 56 meter long, 347 dwt fishing vessel Shans 101 capsized and sank in the Sea of Japan near Svetlaya, Russia.  When the Shans 101 failed to make contact with the owner, the authorities were contacted and a search and rescue mission was launched.  Aircraft along with several fishing boats joined in the search for the missing Shans 101.  The fishing vessel Talan reported spotting the overturn hull of the Shans 101.  A short time later, the 130 meter long freighter Anatoly Torchinov found a life raft with 15 survivors and six dead.  Nine crewmen were still missing.   The survivors stated the vessel was struck by a large wave flipping the Shans 101 over.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.  Initial reports state the Shans 101 did have an emergency beacon, but it wasn’t functional.

The 89 meter long, 3178 dwt freighter Alican S capsized in the Black Sea while berthed at Cayeli, Turkey.  The Alican S was unloading its cargo of cement when it lost stability and rolled to starboard.   Eleven crew on board at the time.   Ten crew were rescued with two injured.   One crewman was asleep at the time of the incident and perished as he was trapped in his cabin.  The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
