Dry Beam

The 186 meter long, 46619 dwt bulk freighter Dry Beam became disabled in bad weather off Pudget Sound, Washington.   The freighter had lost stability in the storm that had 10 meter high waves.  The vessel send out a distress call requesting assistance.   The Coast Guard dispatched an icebreaker to the scene.   However, the crew was able to regain control of the vessel and turned the vessel aground back to Victoria, Canada.   No reports of injuries.  Photos of the vessel show some storm damage and most likely some cargo was lost overboard.   The Dry Beam had been en route to Japan with a cargo of logs before the  incident.

Seven Seas Voyager

Seven Seas Voyager

The 205 meter long, 5400 dwt cruise ship Seven Seas Voyager suffered damage in severe storm while sailing between Australia and New Zealand.   The passenger ship was struck by a large waves reaching 11 meters in height which broke glass and blew furniture off the balconies.   A piece of furniture struck an electrical installation causing a small fire.   The crew was able to extinguish the fire quickly.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Fletum’s Hole

Fletum’s Hole

The 5184 dwt freighter Fletum became damaged while en route to Casablanca, Morocco from Antwerp.   The freighter’s hull had been punctured below the waterline allowing water ingress causing the vessel to develop a slight list.  The vessel headed for the nearest port to make repairs.   The Fletum dropped anchor at Portland, England before entering the harbour.   Authorities are monitoring the vessel for possible pollution being released as the Fletum was loaded with 4,800 tons of ammonium sulphate in its hold.  The Fletum spent a few hours to make repairs and was was set to continue on its voyage.  No reports of injuries.
