Baltic Fin

On October 3, the 89.75 meter long, 3809 dwt cargo vessel Baltic Fin (IMO: 9953925) allided with dolphins outside the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Baltic Fin was on a voyage from Almeria to Rostock when it suffered engine problems and resulting power blackout. The cargo vessel went adrift and struck several dolphins resulting in minor hull damage.  Reports state several dolphins were broken and floating  in the harbour. A tug later towed the Baltic Fin through the locks to a berth in Brunsbüttel. The vessel will undergo inspection for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On September 30, the 106 meter long, 5723 dwt cargo vessel Amberland (IMO: 9518969) was disabled on the Kiel Canal near Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Amberland suffered a power blackout while headed to Kingston upon Hull from Rahja. Luckily, nearby tugs were able to direct the disabled Amberland to some dolphins where it moored. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On September 30, the 90 meter long, 5248 dwt cargo vessel Sommen (IMO: 9968138) became disabled on the Kiel Canal near Dückerswisch, Germany. The Sommen was enroute to Kingston upon Hull from Oernskoeldsvik when it suffered engine breakdown.  Unable to restart the engine, the Sommen requested assistance with a tug from Brunsbüttel. The tug took the Sommen under tow to a berth in Brunsbüttel.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
