On October 31, the 76 foot long wooden tugboat William B caught fire while berthed at Newport Harbor, California. The fire quickly engulfed the wooden vessel during the night.  Local fire fighters fought the blaze for over fiver hours while it was partially sunk in the harbor.  Booms were placed around the vessel to contain any pollution released. No reports of injuries. The William B had some 60 gallons of fuel on board at the time of the fire. Reports state the William B will be drained of any remaining fuel and be towed away as a total loss. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The William B was built in 1942 and was used to pull ships in World War II.

The 19 meter long fishing vessel Rosenvoll caught fire near the port of Mandal, Norway. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room disabling the Rosenvoll.  The crew requested assistance with the NSSR rescue vessel Ægir responding.  The Ægir towed the Rosenvoll back to Mandal. No reports of injuries.

The 36 foot long fishing vessel Good Grief caught fire  in Rands Harbor, North Falmouth, Massachusetts. The fishing vessel caught fire during the early morning which quickly engulfed the entire vessel along with a nearby 24 foot vessel.  Firefighters arrived on scene and were able to extinguished the blaze on the Good Grief, but the nearby smaller vessel sank.  No reports of injuries. Authorities have closed the area to shellfishing while there is an investigation into any pollution released.  An investigation into the incident has been launched.
