The 23 meter long fishing vessel L’Europe caught fire off Barfleur, France. The crew on board were alerted to a  fire broke that broke out in the engine room. The crew of the L’Europe engaged the fire suppressant system and were able to contain the blaze, but not before the main engine was damaged. Authorities dispatched a helicopter along with a SNSM lifeboat to the scene while two nearby trawlers proceeded to the L’Europe. Assisted by authorities, the crew were unable to restart the main engine, but were able to start an auxiliary motor to bring up the L’Europe trawl. The SNSM lifeboat escorted the L’Europe being towed by another trawler to Port-en-Bessin. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Argo caught fire on the Wester Scheldt near Terneuzen, Netherlands. The Argo was headed to Stuttgart from the Gent-Terneuzen Canal with a cargo of stones when a fire broke out in the engine room. Two tugs came to the Argo’s aid and escorted the barge to the lock at Terneuzen.  There a team inspected the vessel and found the fire already extinguished. A local fire brigade arrived on scene and help ventilate the vessel. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 93 meter long, 2703 dwt reefer Frio Confidanze caught fire while berthed in a shipyard in the Guayas River at Guayaquil, Ecuador. The fire was started by a spark while crews were doing repair work.  Local fire brigades were requested and it took over three hours before the fire could be brought under control.  No injuries reported.
