The 106 meter long, 5780 dwt cargo vessel Ventura caught fire while entering the lock at Kiel, Germany. The crew had noticed there was an elevated temperature in the hold containing beet pulp.  Local firefighters were contacted and the Ventura was directed to a nearby quay. At the quay, part of the cargo was offloaded while  firefighters extinguished the embers. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 77 meter long, 1650 dwt cargo vessel Xin Zhou caught fire while loading scrap at Toyohashi, Japan.  Local authorities dispatched fire fighters and fire fighting boats to the scene.  The burning scrap was removed from the hull and doused by water. After several hours, the fire fighters were able to bring the blaze under control. All crew on board were able to safely evacuate to the pier. Some of the crew suffered smoke inhalation.  Damage by the fire to the Xin Zhou was not reported. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 86 meter long cargo vessel Jinlong 7 caught fire in the East China Sea near Jeju Island, South Korea. The Jinlong 7 was en route to Shanghai from Rajun with a cargo of 1200 tons of timber when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The crew was able to extinguish the blaze before help had time to arrive. The fire disabled the vessel and it was towed to Seogwipo, Jeju island for repairs. Reports state the fire was started by a broken fuel pipe.
