On July 31, the 21 meter long fishing vessel Second Chance ran aground in the Gulf of Mexico off Port Aransas, Texas.  The shrimp boat had suffered engine problems and became disabled. The Second Chance went adrift and eventually went ashore on the beach.  The United States Coast Guard dispatched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to the scene. The helicopter was able to pull off all three crew on board the Second Chance along with the two dogs onboard. No reports of injuries.

Authorities dispatched a response team to monitor the shrimp boat. They report there was no signs of any pollution released. Authorities have requested the vessel owner to salvage the vessel as soon as possible.

The 54 meter long, 400 dwt cargo vessel MV Mirola 1 (IMO: 7903433) ran aground near Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines. Reports state the vessel sustained hull damage and oil pollution was released. Authorities state the pollution is a mix of diesel fuel and oil from machinery. No reports of injuries. The Philippine Coast Guard have placed booms around the vessel and begun removal of fuel and oil off the vessel. A total of 800 litres of oil have been removed along with other flotsam released by the MV Mirola 1.

Reports state the MV Mirola 1 owner was not clear and that the vessel had been detained last year by authorities.

On July 24, the 121 meter long, 7933 dwt bulk carrier JSW Raigad (IMO: 9797319) went aground off Kolaba Fort, India. The JSW Raigad had been at anchor when bad weather and strong winds caused it’s anchor to drag. The bulker drifted until it ran aground on the rocks.  The JSW Raigad sustained hull damage and it’s engine room sustained flooding. The crew alerted the Indian Coast Guard that the vessel was in distress and needed rescue.

The Indian Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and safely evacuated all 14 crew to the nearby shoreline. No reports of injuries.
