MSC Rhiannon

On March 15, the 188 meter long, 32106 dwt container ship MSC Rhiannon (IMO: 9224051) ran aground in the Sea of Marmara near Yeşilköy, Turkey. The MSC Rhiannon was en route to Tekirdağ from Romania when it grounded and was unable free itself.

Authorities were alerted and dispatched the tug Kurtarma 9 along with the rescue vessel KEGM-3 to the scene. The vessels were able to free the boxship and the Kurtarma 9 took the MSC Rhiannon under tow.

Divers were requested to make an underwater survey of the hull for damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

CC Atlantique

On March 1, the 50 meter long tugboat Kamarina (IMO: 9499644) was towing a 122 meter long, 20148 dwt barge CC Atlantique (IMO: 9562245) from Rönne to Sczcezin when the barge allided with a channel light on the Flintrännan near the Öresund Bridge. The barge had veered too far starboard of the channel and struck the foundation of the channel lights and became stuck. There were no reports of injuries. Swedish authorities stated that traffic on the channel was not impacted by the incident. A salvage company has been contracted to pull the CC Atlantique free and towed away. Authorities did not release a date when the channel light would be replaced.

On the afternoon of February 28, the 64 meter long, 336 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Gjemnes (IMO: 7814333) ran aground in the Holmestrandsfjorden at Hakan, Norway. The ferry had run up on the rocks off the breakwater and was quickly freed by the crew boat Hørtte (MMSI: 257054700).  The Gjemnes proceeded to the terminal where all passengers and vehicles were unloaded. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The NSSR conducted an inspection of the hull and found the ferry was undamaged.  The Gjemnes went back into service the next day.
