The fishing vessel Grandpa’s Legacy ran aground in the Pigeon Hill Bay near Steuben, Maine. The lobster boat had been stolen by an individual from Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada and sailed across the border towards Maine. Canadian authorities sent out alerts that the vessel had been stolen. A Maine lobsterman spotted the Grandpa’s Legacy stranded an offshore sandbar partially aground. The United States Coast Guard dispatched a vessel to the scene. There the Coast Guard secured the vessel and held the individual on board. No reports of injuries.

Reports state the individual was sent back to Canada where he was taken custody by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

On May 24, the 71 meter long, 200 dwt high-speed ro-ro passenger ferry Isola Di Capraia ran aground in the Adriatic Sea at the harbor of San Nicola, Tremiti Islands, Italy. The ferry had sailed from Termoli with 27 passengers.  As the Isola Di Capraia attempted to enter the harbor at San Nicola, it lost control.  The crew drop both anchors, but the ferry continued forward until it ran aground on the outer breakwater. The ferry pulled itself free a short time later and proceeded to its berth. Divers inspected the hull and found minor damage to the bow. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The crew made repairs and the Isola Di Capraia was able to proceed back to Termoli. Reports state the ferry had suffered a mechanical breakdown resulting in the grounding.

On May 15, the 180 meter long, 36,898 dwt bulk carrier Mars Harmony ran aground on the Parana River near Villa Constitución, Argentina. The vessel was bound for Bahia Blanca from Rosario when it stranded loaded with cargo of corn and soybeans. The bulk carrier remained aground until the following day when tugs were able to be refloated. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
