The 172 meter long self-propelled barge Rhenus Hanau went aground on the Rhine River near Wesel, Germany.  The Rhenus Hanau was carrying 5000 tons of coal from Amsterdam to Duisburg when it grounded near Wesel bridge.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The barge remained aground until part of the coal cargo could be lightered.  Reports state the water police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 86 meter long, 790 dwt ro-ro ferry Marstein went aground off Tobbe Holmane near Husavik, Norway.  The ferry was en route from Sandvikvåg with seven passengers and six crew grounded just outside Husavik. No reports of injuries.  The passengers were transferred to another vessel and taken to Husavik. The Marstein was later refloated  and proceeded to Husavik.  Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.  The cause of the grounding was not reported.

The 125 meter long, 8800 dwt container ship 3 Oak went aground on the Kiel Canal while en route to Rotterdam from Szczecin.  The 3 Oak had suffered engine failure and drifted onto the embankment.  Traffic on the canal was halted until the vessel was refloated later the same day.  The 3 Oak proceeded under its own power to Brunsbüttel where it was inspected before allowing the vessel continue on its voyage.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
