The 15 meter long fishing vessel Leithe went aground near Olaholmen near Finnsnesrenna, Norway. No injuries to the two crew on board. Authorities tested the crew for alcohol with results negative. The Leithe was able to refloat itself a few hours later during the next high tide.
The 51 meter long, 1077 dwt tanker John B. Caddell went aground on Staten Island, New York. The vessel had been moored a mile away when the storm surge from Hurricane Sandy struck. The tanker was pushed by the storm surge until the bow of the vessel was ashore. No reports of injuries. No one was on board the tanker at the time.
The 700 ton freighter Mega One Triton went aground near the port of Grand Turk, Turk & Caicos Islands. The vessel went ashore on a beach near the port. No reports of damage or any pollution released. Authorities state the vessel will be assessed and refloated after rough seas from Hurricane Sandy subside.
