The 522 gt ro-ro passenger ferry KMP Munawar sank off Lombok Island, Indonesia.  The ferry departed the port of Kayangan, Lombok during the early morning with 50 upto 160 passengers and several trucks, minibuses and motorcycles bound for Poto Tano on Sumbawa Island.  A few hours later the vessel developed a list before it capsized and sank near Poto Tano.  Survivors reported that the vessel had spotted a  leak and passengers notified the crew before the vessel developed a list.   Passengers clung on to life vests before they were rescued.  Three passengers perished.  Conflicting reports state there may be additional missing persons.

The 112 meter long container ship Xing Tai 5 foundered off Shanghai, China. The vessel’s crew were able to send out a distress call before the container ship capsized and sank spilling crew and containers into the water.  Eleven of the 16 crew were rescued.  A nearby vessel pulled five crew from the water and a rescue helicopter lifted six others to safety.  Authorities continue to search for the remaining five crew of the Xing Tai 5.  Reports state over 20 containers were spotted floating on the water.  The cause for capsizing was not reported.

The frigate INS Talwar collided with a fishing vessel near Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. The naval warship sliced into the unlit trawler during the night.   The INS Talwar was undamaged, but the fishing trawler quickly sank sending the 27 crew on board into the water.  All 27 crewmen were later rescued by the INS Talwar.  Four suffered injuries and received medical attention.  Reports state the fishing trawler had been operating without lights and was not visible in the dark.
