The 117 foot long fishing vessel Exito sank at the entrance of Unalaska Bay near Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The Exito had suffered water ingress while 14 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor in 8 foot seas and winds up to 35 miles per hour. The crew requested assistance with 4 nearby fishing vessels responding. The Coast Guard dispatched the Cutter Alex Haley along with a rescue helicopter from Kodiak to the scene.

The fishing vessel Afognak Strait was first to arrived on scene and rescued 3 of the 5 crew of the Exito. The three crew had abandoned ship together. The remaining two crew were last seen preparing to abandon ship, but are reported as missing. Reports state one of the missing crew had donned a survival suit, but it was unclear if they had escaped into a life raft.

A Coast Guard helicopter along with 3 fishing vessels (Commitment, Blue North and Northern Lead) continue to search the area for the two missing crew. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident. The Exito had been transporting cargo between Dutch Harbor and Akutan on Akutan Island.

On December 3, the 138 meter long, 5859 dwt cargo vessel Volgo Don 203 ran aground and partially sank in the Sea of Marmara near Kartal, Turkey. The cargo vessel was caught in a storm while passing through the Istanbul channel and was pushed up on the channel embankment. The Volgo Don 203 sustained several hull breaches near the stern resulting in water ingress. The engine room completely flooded causing the vessel to partially sink. All 14 crew on board were able to be evacuated by local authorities. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Reports state the Volgo Don 203  will be salvaged.

The 272 gt passenger ship Kanzam Express (possibly the formerly Royal Ferry IMO: 9137375) sank off Itbayat Island in Batanes, Philippines. The ferry was near Itbayat with seven crew when it began to sink by the stern. As the bow lifted out of the water, the crew remained on deck when the passing 190 meter long bulk carrier Ingrid C came to the rescue. The bulk carrier rescued five of the seven crew. Two crew were reported as still missing. The Philippine Coast Guard dispatched a search and rescue team to the area where the Kanzam Express sank. The cause of the water ingress and later sinking had not yet been reported.
