On December 5, the 107 meter long, 9022 dwt container/cargo vessel Isa Star (IMO: 9210270) sustain an explosion in the Red Sea off Hodeidah, Yemen. The Isa Star alerted authorities it had suffered an explosion in the engine room resulting in fire and hull damage. The explosion was strong enough to damage the hull to allow water ingress. Without any way to control the flooding, the crew of the Isa Star requested evacuation. The European Union naval mission Aspidas dispatched a vessel which was able to safely evacuate all the crew off the Isa Star. The crew would be taken to Djibouti. Reports do not state if there was any injuries or the final outcome of the Isa Star.

On December 2, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Vista Mare (MMSI: 244670495) sprung a leak on the IJssel River while berthed at Zutphen, Netherlands. The local fire brigade arrived on scene and found the vessel loaded with 800 tons of ore was sinking.  De-watering pumps were deployed to control the flooding while efforts were made to unload the cargo of ore. When the unloading was completed, the Vista Mare was able to proceed to a shipyard for repairs. No reports of injuries to the 4 crew on board.

On the morning of December 3, the 274 meter long, 156620 dwt tanker Gloria Maris (IMO:9899997) collided with the 400 meter long, 229039 dwt container ship HMM St Petersburg (IMO: 9868364) in the Strait of Gibraltar some 9 nautical miles off Algeciras, Spain. The Gloria Maris departed from Cartagena with 25 crew in ballast struck the HMM St Petersburg which was headed to Algeciras with 24 crew on board. The bow of the Gloria Maris sustained hull damage while the HMM St Petersburg port side hull was holed, but there were no injuries or pollution released.

Authorities have detained both vessel until they could be inspected for seaworthiness and an investigation could be done into the incident.
