On the night of January 2, the 154 meter long, 7226 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Glyvursnes caught fire while berthed at Hirshals, Denmark. The Glyvursnes had arrived from Iceland when a fire broke out in the engine room. The local fire brigade was called out and was able to contain the blaze an hour later. One crew member perished in the fire while another was badly injured from burns. Reports state there was heavy smoke and some crew suffered smoke inhalation.

Danish Maritime Authority is inspecting the vessel for the extent of damage caused by the fire.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On the morning of January 3, the 70 foot long fishing vessel Guardian ran aground in Cape Cod Bay near Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The Guardian had ran ashore onto the beach and was left high and dry. The Coast Guard dispatched a tug and was able to refloat the fishing vessel later the same day with the rising tide. No reports of injuries to the 5 crew on board, no damage and no pollution was released. The cause of grounding was not disclosed.

On December 30, 2024 the 170 foot long, 199 gt cargo vessel Jerlyn Khatness (IMO: 8870580) sank in the San Bernardino Strait off Lavezares, Philippines. The Jerlyn Khatness was en route to San Jose from Naga City with a cargo of 24 tons of cement and 15 crew when it suffered water ingress from rough waves. The cargo vessel started to sink after being struck by large waves off Lavezares.  Reports state the Jerlyn Khatness later sank with 13 crew rescued. Passing vessels and local fishermen rescued 12 crew and one crew would swim to San Juan Island after 25 hours in the water.

The Philippine Coast Guard along with local authorities have launched a search and rescue for the missing crew.  One crew member perished and the body was recovered off the island of Biri. The incident is under investigation.
