A coal barge went aground on the Monongahela River near Brownsville, Pennsylvania pushed by the towboat Francis J. Blank.   The Francis J. Blank was proceeding down river with three barges when one struck bottom and began to leak.  The towboat pushed the leaking barge onto the river bank to prevent it from it sinking.  River traffic was halted while another barge was brought to the scene to lighter the coal.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 225 meter long, 74382 dwt bulk freighter Yong Tong became disabled near Isla de Tarifa and Gibraltar.  The Yong Tong had suffered engine failure and gone adrift.   The crew requested assistance with a salvage tug responding.  The tug was able to take the bulk freighter under tow and proceeded to Algeciras.   The Yong Tong was en route to New Orleans from Gibraltar in ballast.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 149 meter long container ship Ahs St Georg allided with the pilings while leaving drydock at Emden.   The Ahs St. Gerog was being assisted by two tugs when its main engine failed.   The vessel’s stern drifted onto the pilings.   Both the pilings and Ahs St Georg suffered significant damage.   The vessel was detained for inspection and repairs.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.
