The 119 meter long, 7640 dwt freighter Canal Beagle became disabled in the South Atlantic Ocean near Bahia Blanca.  The vessel was loaded with cargo and supplies bound for Antarctica when it suffered propulsion problems after suffering damage to the engine.   The vessel was able to reach port where it is expected to make repairs.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 85 meter long self-propelled barge Ursel went aground on the Main River near the lock at Goßmannsdorf, Germany.  The Ursel was headed downriver when it lost control and went perpendicular to the river.  The vessel’s bow became stuck on shore while its stern ran up onto the dam blocking the entrance to the lock.  The Ursel suffered water ingress from a leak in the hull and water washing over the deck into the vessel’s cabin.  No reports of injuries.   The local fire brigade was called out and was able to help dewater the vessel.   The Ursel was able to be refloated and was moored nearby.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Rystraum

The 129 meter long, 9006 dwt tanker Rystraum collided with the 159 meter long, 14901 dwt container ship Sandy Rickmers in the Kiel Canal near Breiholz, Germany.  The Rystraum was pushed by a gust of wind and struck the stern of the Sandy Rickmers.   No reports of injuries and no pollution released.  The Rystraum suffered light damage to its wheelhouse while the stem of the Sandy Rickmers suffered slight damage.   Both vessels were able to proceed under their own power to Brunsbuttel.  The water police launched an investigation and allowed both vessels to continue onto their destinations.   The Sandy Rickmers continued on to Antwerp with its cargo of empty containers while the Rystraum headed to Kokkola with its cargo of caustic soda.
