The 86 meter long self-propelled barge Itasca allided with a barrier at a railway bridge on the Hunte River near Elsfleth, Germany.  The Itasca was proceeding from Brake with parts for a wind plant went it veered into barrier.  Some 25 meters of the barrier was partially destroyed along with several pillings.  The Itasca suffered only slight damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Damage was estimated to be over 100,000 Euros.  The Itasca proceeded  to Oldenburg where the water police detained the vessel.  The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 88 meter long, 2859 dwt freighter Ran went aground near Ålabodarna, Sweden.  The Ran was en route to Leith from Wolgast with grain when it was driven aground.  The Swedish Coast Guard responded  to the scene.  The master of the Ran was given a breathalyzer test that return positive for alcohol.  He was later arrested.  No reports of injuries to the seven crew on board at the time.
