Achilleas

The 192 meter long, 35458 dwt bulk freighter Archilleas suffered an explosion and fire in the Atlantic Ocean while off the coast of Western Sahara.  The explosion caused some damaged and disabled the bulk carrier.  Another vesssel was on the scene monitoring the situation.   Reports state a salvage tug was dispatched to take the Achilleas under tow.  No further details reported.

The 24 meter long, 178 gt fishing vessel Rias Baxias Un foundered in the South Atlantic near Freetown, Sierra Leone.  The five crew on board sent out a distress call before abandoned ship into the vessel’s life raft.  Another nearby fishing vessel  came to their aid and were able to rescue all men safely.   No further details reported.

Jin Fu

Jin Fu

The 190 meter long, 50700 dwt freighter Jin Fu went aground at  Maputo, Mozambique.  The Jin Fu was leaving Maputo with a cargo of coal when it struck a sandbank.  The freighter will be lightered several thousand tons of coal before attempting to refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
