On December 26, 2021,  the 143 meter long, 12774 dwt container ship Asiatic Sun allided with the pier at Taichung Port, Taiwan. The Asiatic Sun was attempting to berth at Taichung after a voyage from Taipei when its bow struck the pier. The bow of the Asiatic Sun was heavily damaged. Some 7 meters of the pier was damaged or destroyed by the allision.

No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Maritime Port Bureau and the Ministry of Transport have launched an investigation into the incident. Reports state there were strong winds in the area at the time.

On July 22, the 135 meter long passenger ship Lady Diletta allided with a bridge on the Mosel River near Longuich, Germany. Launched in June 2020, the Lady Diletta was proceeding on a cruise with 180 passengers.  During the early morning hours, the cruise ship attempted to pass under the bridge, but the upper deck struck the bridge. The vessel’s sundeck and railing were damaged, but none of the 180 passengers and crew were injured. Some signage on the bridge was also damaged, but the bridge itself didn’t sustain any damage. Reports state the incident was due to a course mistake allowing the vessel to veered to far from the fairway.

The 186 meter long self-propelled barge Rhenus Duisburg allided with a bridge on the New Maas at Rotterdam, Netherlands. The vessel was en route to Wallersheim from Duisburg when it lost control due the current and wind. The barge had even tried to reverse engines, but the vessel continued towards the Willems Bridge.  As the barge passed underneath, several containers on board the Rhenus Duisburg struck the bridge and went overboard.  All the containers were later recovered from the river. An inspection found neither the barge or the bridge sustained significant damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
