Ronja

On April 2, the 90 meter long, 4500 dwt cargo vessel Ronja allided with the northern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Ronja was en route to Sczcecin from Figueira da Foz when it struck the lock gate. The vessel was detained by the water police at Brunsbüttel for an hour until it was allowed to continue on its voyage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On March 9, the 100 meter long self-propelled barge Thekla allided with a jetty on the Rhine at Colonia-Niehl, Germany. The Thekla was proceeding on the Rhine in high water when it struck the submerged jetty.  The barge sustained damage to its starboard bow with water ingress in the forward cabin and bow thruster room.  Still under its own power, the Thekla proceeded to the basin in Niehl.  Local fire brigade were alerted and begun dewatering efforts with portable pumps. A fireboat arrived on scene and monitored the situation.

The following day another barge was arrived on scene and help unload the cargo of aluminum hydroxide to help keep the vessel higher in the water.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

CONTAINERSHIPS VI

The 155 meter long, 13520 dwt container ship Containerships VI allided with lock wall in the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The vessel was proceeding through the southern lock when strong winds caused the port stern to strike the middle wall in the lock. The Containerships VI sustained minimal damage and was allowed to continue on its voyage from Rotterdam to Helsinki. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
