New Katerina

The 289 meter long, 170082 dwt bulk carrier New Katerina caught fire with berthed in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The fire started on an excavator working the vessel’s hold. The New Katerina, loaded with coal, released dense smoke. The crew was able to escape the vessel with no injuries.  The local fire brigade, assisted by fire boats, were able to bring the blaze under control a few hours later. No reports of pollution released.

The 181 meter long cargo vessel Zina suffered a fire while berthed at Amsterdam, Netherlands.  The vessel had several containers of phosphine on its deck which caught fire.  Nine crew were injured by the smoke and were taken to hospital.  Local fire brigade arrived on scene and fought the fire using dry sand.  The barrels were removed by a crane. Damage to the vessel was not reported.

The 4,200 dwt unfinished vessel Arctic Dawn struck the Schellingwouder Bridge on the IJmeer near Amsterdam, Netherlands.  The Arctic Dawn was being pushed by the the 15 meter long tug Waterlelie when the top of the vessel struck the the bridge.  The bridge was shifted about one centimeter causing it not to close.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Traffic was diverted until the bridge could be lowered.  Reports state the bridge will require further repairs.  The Arctic Dawn was reported as not yet completed and was still under construction.
