The Svetoslava had slowed down to avoid a collision with another vessel when it was pulled by the current into shallow water. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Svetoslava was en route to Rostov-on-Don with a cargo of grain.
On April 21, the 123 meter long, 3794 dwt tanker Palflot 5 ran aground on the Don River in the port of Azov, Russia. The Palflot 5 had departed from Volgograd with 2951 tons of vegetable oil when it ran aground after a navigational error. The tanker was able to refloat itself the same day. No reports of damage, injuries or pollution released.
The 114 meter long general cargo vessel Aleksey Afanasyev ran aground on the Don River near Azov, Russia. The Aleksey Afanasyev was en route to Venice from Rostov with 2888 tons of oil cakes when it grounded. The vessel was later refloated a few hours later with the assistance of an icebreaker. The Aleksey Afanasyev proceeded to Azov to be inspected for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
