Northern Song Aground

The 84 foot passenger vessel (yacht) Northern Song went aground near Baranof Island in the Lower Chatham Strait, Alaska.  The Northern Song’s anchor had dragged while at low tide allowing the vessel to go aground.  The vessel contacted the Coast Guard that it had seven passengers and four crew on board.   The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene while the crew of the Northern Song transferred the passengers to shore using the vessel’s inflatable liferaft.    The helicopter picked up the passengers and safely took them to Sitka, Alaska.   The Northern Song refloated the same day.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
