On April 25, the 62 meter long, 1563 dwt cargo vessel Lago Icalma allided with the barge Rano Aroi II in Hanga Roa Bay, Easter Island. The Lago Icalma was at anchor when the barge Rano Aroi II arrived on scene to begin lightering operations.  The barge struck the against the Lago Icalma breaching the hull and rupturing a fuel tank. Diesel fuel was released into the water.  Local authorities arrived on scene and placed booms around the hull, but some pollution washed ashore.  Reports state absorbent materials were used to collect most of the diesel fuel from the shoreline.   The crew of the Lago Icalma transferred fuel from the damaged tank and was able to seal the breach.  No reports of injuries.

Four barges ran aground and sunk on the Ohio River just below the Pike Island Locks near Wheeling, West Virginia. Reports state the barges loaded with coal were being towed when they ran aground while waiting on another towboat to pass. Authorities state the barges are outside the navigation channel and has not impacted traffic. The owner has begun efforts to refloat the barges. No reports of injuries.

The 370 dwt tugboat Matsusho Maru along with the barge Matsusho ran aground off Shikoku Island, Japan. The tug and barge had been battered by a strong storm when it was blown into shallow water. Reports state the tug ran up on the rocks and partially sank.  The 7 crew on board the Matsusho Maru were hoisted to safety by a Japan Coast Guard helicopter. No reports of injuries. The barge Matsusho, loaded with general cargo, was partially sunk near the tug.
