On September 25, the 150 meter long tug Kapitan Rybalko and the barge VT 3759 ran aground in Taganrog Bay, Azov Sea. The Kapitan Rybalko and barge were en route to Kavkaz from Rostov with 3021 tons of calcium chloride when a strong wind pushed the vessels off course into shallow water. The barge ran aground abeam to the shoreline. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The owners have arranged to have the barge refloated.

Martha Denton

The 121 foot long towboat Martha Denton went aground on the Ohio River at Evansville, Indiana.   Martha Denton was attempting to make the turn in the river when windy conditions cause the towboat and its barges to run onto the riverbank.   An hour later, the Martha Denton and barges were able to be refloated. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Martha Denton continue to proceed downbound on the Ohio with its 15 barges.

A section of a floating pier 2 at Port Canaveral, Florida was completed destroyed by a passing barge.  The pier used by large tankers bringing gas and oil into the port was struck by the barge.  The pier’s pilings above the waterline were complete destroyed.  No reports of injuries, but the damage to the pier is reported to be in excess of $500,000 (USD) and may require up to three months to be rebuilt.  Pier 3 was reported as damaged as well by officals.
