The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Martcilino ran aground on the Western Scheldt near Bath, Netherlands. The Martcilino had passed Bath when it stranded. Authorities were alerted and dispatched patrol vessels and tugs to the scene. The tugs were able to pull the barge free an hour later, but the Martcilino could no longer proceed under its own power. Tugs towed the Martcilino back to Antwerp. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
The 225 meter long, 68789 dwt bulk carrier Usolie collided with the 188 meter long, 40600 dwt tanker Seatrout on the Western Scheldt near Bath, Netherlands. Both vessels were headed downstream from Antwerp in ballast with the Seatrout headed for Ust-Luga while the Usolie was bound for Klaipeda. The Seatrout had not maintained enough distance where the channel narrowed and was struck at the stern by the Usolie. The Usolie sustained only minor damage and was allowed to continue on its voyage. The Seatrout was nudged out of the fairway and went aground on a mud bank. The vessel requested assistance with 4 tugs responding. The tugs waited until high tide before pulling the Seatrout free. Traffic was halted for vessels over 200 meters long and fishing was prohibited during the incident.
The Seatrout was towed to Vlissingen for inspection for damage. No reports of injuries on either vessel.
The 366 meter long, 155480 dwt container ship CSCL Jupiter ran aground on the Wester Scheldt River near Bath, Netherlands. The CSCL Jupiter had departed from Antwerp bound for Hamburg when it suffered steering failure. The boxship ran hard aground leaving its bulbous bow nearly high and dry. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
The CSCL Jupiter requested assistance with 10 tugs responding. The tugs attempted to pull the container ship free, but the vessel remained stuck. Traffic on the Scheldt was halted. Reports state there is a backlog of vessels awaiting to enter and depart from Antwerp.
A survey was being conducted to see if the CSCL Jupiter has suffered hull damage. Another attempt to refloat the container ship will be done on the next high tide.
