The 130 meter long passenger ferry Queen of Nanaimo allided with a floating dock on Mayne Island, British Columbia, Canada.  The float sustained some damage.  While pulling away from the dock,  the Queen of Nanaimo went aground.   While it was maneuvering, the ferry was pushed by heavy winds causing the vessel aground.  No injuries to the 22 crew and two passengers on board at the time.

Divers inspected a portion of the ferry’s hull and discovered the starboard propeller and shaft were damaged.  A portion of the aft hull was also damaged. The Queen of Nanaimo was to be towed to Long Harbour on Salt Spring Island by several tugs.  The Queen of Nanaimo will be drydocked to make the necessary of reports.  BC Ferries announced scheduled sailings between Tsawwassen and Southern Gulf Islands are cancelled as another vessel is not available to replace the Queen of Nanaimo.

Coastal Inspiration

The 160 meter long, 1770 dwt ro-ro ferry Coastal Inspiration allided with the wharf at Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.  One crewman and one passenger were injured as the vessel’s crew issued a warning before the impact.  The Coastal Inspiration suffered only minor damage, but the loading ramp at the terminal prevented vehicles from being unloaded.  The vessel traveled to a nearby terminal to allow vehicles to depart.   The cause of the hard landing was not reported.

The ferry Coastal Celebration had to be taken out of service after the vessel  allided with the dock at Swartz Bay, Vancouver Island.   The Coastal Celebration was departing the dock when  it reversed and slammed into the dock hard.   The ferry suffered damage to the bow doors and ramp and the dock also sustained some damage.  Earilier in the week, another BC Ferry, the MV Mill Bay, allided with the dock resulting in hull holed above the water line.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
