MV Arita Bauxite
The motor vessel Arita Bauxite sank near Cape Bolinao, Philippines. The vessel was en route to China from Indonesia when it suffered engine problems. The vessel began to roll as it drifted. The crew requested assistance, but before any help arrived, the Arita Bauxite rolled over and sank. Nine of the 24 crew on board were able to reach the 2 liferafts. The men were rescued by the 188 meter long bulk freighter Jin Cheng. One crewman perished when the vessel sank while the remaining 14 were listed as missing. Two of the crew rescued suffered injuries and were airlifted to a hospital at San Fernando. The Philippine Coast Guard launched search and rescue operations looking for any additional survivors.
