Peach Mountain

The 195 meter long, 40015 dwt bulk freighter Peach Mountain collided with the wooden fishing vessel Axl John near Scarborough Shoal off Bolinao, Philippines.  The Axl John had been disabled by large waves that began to flood the vessel.  The eight crew on board lashed the wooden fishing boat  to a nearby payaw (an artificial fishing ground) to avoid the vessel capsizing in the heavy weather.   Later, the Peach Mountain proceeding to China in the bad weather struck the Axl John causing it to sink sending the eight men into the water.  Three survivors were later rescued, but five crewmen from the Axl John perished.  No one was injured on the Peach Mountain.  Reports state the Peach Mountain did not stop to look for survivors.    The Philippines Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.
