The 60 meter long, 3784 dwt freighter Erhan Araz went aground in the Bosphorus Strait near Beykoz, Turkey.  The Erhan Araz was going upstream from Diliskelesi to Novorossiysk with 3400 tons of steel when it suffered a steering malfunction.  The freighter’s rudder had failed and vessel ran ashore into a marina.   Several local fishing boats were damaged or sank.  No reports of injuries.  Tugs were dispatched to refloat the Erhan Araz.  No reports of pollution released.   Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 58 meter long passenger ferry Kalamis collided with the 42 meter long passenger ferry Erdem Karadeniz in the Bosphorus near Haydarpasha, Turkey.   The two vessels collided head-on in dense fog.   Three passengers were injured.   Authorities dispatched several rescue boats to the scene.   The injured passengers were transferred to the rescue boats and taken ashore.   The remaining passengers were returned back to port.  No details provided to the damage either vessel sustained in the collision. Reports state that ferry service was suspended afterwards until weather conditions improved.

Ondina

Ondina

The 78 meter long tanker Ondina  collided with the 58 meter long, 2615 dwt freighter Alaa 1 near Istanbul, Turkey.  The Alaa 1 was at anchor when the Ondina struck.   The Alaa 1 suffered some minor damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Ondina was en route from Constanta to Sete.  No further details reported.
