Nordic Philip Disabled

The 13031 dwt boxship Nordic Philip became disabled off Kotka, Finland after having engine problems.   The vessel requested assistance and the tugs Aku and Mars to Kotka.  The vessel later discharged its cargo of containers and is at berth awaiting repairs.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

MOL Aqua Fire

The 147 meter long boxship MOL Aqua suffered a fire while docked at the port of Laem ChabangThailand.   The fire started in a cargo container of computers and quickly spread to other containers including 10 others loaded with chemicals.  The fire soon grew out of control and local fire fighters were requested.   Quickly, there were 10 fire fighting vehicles were on scene attempting to douse the flames.   After 5 hours fighting the blaze, the men were able to extinguish the fire.   Reports state 147 of the 200 containers on board were partially damaged by the fire.  The 19 crewmen on the MOL Aqua were able to evacuate safely.   No reports serious of injuries, but some suffered from smoke inhalation .   Officals are conducting an investigation to the cause of the blaze.

Maersk Dabou Allides with Wharf

Maersk Dabou Allides with Wharf

The 41,359 gt boxship Maersk Dabou allided with the wharf at Port Chalmers, New Zealand when its engines failed while it manoeuvre  to berth and the vessel struck the corner of the wharf.   The vessel starboard side was damage with a hole in hull the size of 5 meters by 2 meters above the waterline.   The Maersk Dabou had 4,132 containers which will remain on board until repairs can be made.   No reports of injuries.
