WIDOR

The 83 meter long, 3417 dwt freighter Widor allided with the south quay at Brake, Germany.  The Widor was attempting to do a mooring manuevuer when it suffered a power blackout.   The vessel’s generator had failed and the vessel was unable to stop.   The crew attempted to stop the ship with an emergency anchoring, but it struck the quay.   Reports state the damage to shore facilities was several thousand Euros.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Widor had arrived from Arhus and was allowed to proceed on to its destination at St. Petersburg after authorities had finished conducting an investigation.

Neuland

The 89 meter long freighter Neuland allided with a pier at Brake, Germany.   The Neuland was approaching the pier when the strong current caused the stern of the vessel to strike the pier.  The vessel suffered minor damage above the waterline, but a crane sustained significant damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Neuland was detained by authorities until an investigation is completed into the incident.

Collision on the Weser

Collision on the Weser

The 88 meter long, 3600 dwt freighter Wittenbergen and the 79 meter long, 2131 dwt freighter Helga collided in dense fog on the Weser River near Brake, Germany.  The Wittenbergen struck the Helga causing minor damage to both vessels.  No reports of injuries on either vessel.   The Helga proceeded to Bremen where it berthed while the Wittenbergen proceeded to Brake.   The water police launched an investigation into the incident.   Initial reports stated the master of the Wittenbergen had misjudge the current which caused the freighter to veer into the Helga.
