The 72,900 dwt tanker Irma Dulce sank while berthed at the Maua Shipyard in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The vessel had been laid up at the pier when the vessel sustained water ingress in the engine room. The vessel settled by the stern resting in 4 meters of water.  The Irma Dulce was later stabilized and flooding was brought under control. Divers were dispatched to inspect the hull for damage. No reports of injuries. Reports state the tanker was 95% completed, but no details if the Irma Dulce was receiving maintenance while laid up.

Aeoloian Grace

On March 3, the 225 meter long, 76525 dwt bulk carrier Aeoloian Grace ran aground at São Francisco do Sul, Brazil. The Aeoloian Grace was maneuvering just outside the port of Laje da Barata when it ran aground 500 meters from the port. Authorities were alerted and two tugs were dispatched to stabilize the bulk carrier. The grounding was most likely due to the low tide.  Divers have inspected the hull and a team is onsite to monitor pollution.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Salvador Capsizing

On August 24, a passenger vessel capsized on the Baia de Todos os Santos off Salvador, Brazil. The vessel had departed from Salvador bound for Mar Grande with 129 passengers. The voyage is just about 20 kilometers across the bay and conditions were favorable. During the voyage, the vessel rolled over. Some 21 people were able to escape and were later rescued. Authorities launched a search and rescue operation.  Reports state several bodies have been recovered.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
