The 150 meter long, 7330 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Drujba collided with the 180 meter long, 35000 dwt bulk carrier Dvadesetprvi Maj at Bourgas, Bulgaria. The Drujba had arrived from Batumi when it struck into the port side of the Dvadesetprvi Maj. The bulk carrier sustained damage to its deck equipment and hull. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Reports state authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 141 meter long, 7036 dwt tanker VF Tanker 7 exploded while berthed at a shipyward in Varna, Bulgaria. The explosion and subsequent fire occurred while repair worker was welding in a ballast tank. The local fire brigade were alerted and  later extinguished the blaze. No further details reported.

On January 3, the 178 meter long bulk carrier Sunrise ran aground in the Black Sea off the entrance to the port of Burgas, Bulgaria.  The Sunrise had departed from Brake with a cargo of pipes and was approaching the entrance to Burgas when it ran onto the shallow water. Three tugs were able to refloat the bulk carrier a short time later.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
