Aroyat

On July 6, the 148 meter long, 18315 dwt bulk carrier Aroyat (IMO: 9151395) allided with the canal wall in the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Aroyat was enroute to Beira from Kaliningrad when it struck the center canal wall on the north lock at Brunsbüttel. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the Aroyat was allowed to proceed an hour later under its own power.

On January 19, the 200 meter long, 63529 dwt bulk carrier Royal Jade caught fire while berthed at the Karachi, Pakistan. The Royal Jade had arrived from Russia with a cargo of 57,750 tons of wheat. While the Royal Jade was being unloaded, a fire broke out on the cargo deck spewing out smoke around the vessel. Authorities responded sending a firefighters along with a fire tug to assist in dousing the fire. Reports states additional resources arrived on scene in case the fire could not be brought under control. No reports of injuries. The source of the fire is suspected to a carbide that caught fire on the deck.

On January 2, the 200 meter long, 63301 dwt bulk carrier Madison Eagle became disabled on the Marmara Sea while heading for Tuzla from Iskenderun. The vessel had suffered a mechanical failure and the crew was unable to restore propulsion.  Authorities dispatched the tugboat KEGM Kurtarma-3 to the scene and took the Madison Eagle under tow. The vessels proceeded to an anchorage off Tuzla, Turkey. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
