On July 16, the 234 meter long, 25345 dwt bulk carrier Kaye E. Barker allided with the Ray Nitschke Memorial Bridge on the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The laker was attempting to go up the river with its cargo of coal when it struck the fendering around the bridge along with a nearby floating dock. A recreational watercraft was also struck and sustained significant damage. Traffic was halted on the bridge until it could be inspected for damage.

The Kaye E. Barker had no injuries, damage or pollution released. Traffic was resumed on the bridge by the following day. The cause of the allision is under investigation by the Coast Guard.

The 186 meter long, 26735 dwt bulk carrier Mandarin became disabled  on the St. Lawrence River near Massena, New York. The Mandarin was proceeding upstream from Montreal bound for Toronto when it suffered engine failure. The crew was able to maintain control of the vessel, but the vessel had to berth at the Eisenhower Lock to make repairs. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On July 18, the 223 meter long, 36674 dwt bulk carrier CSL Laurentien ran aground on the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The CSL Laurentien remained aground for a few hours until two tugs were able to help refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the CSL Laurentien proceeded to an anchorage where it will undergo surveys.
