On May 31, the 104 meter long,  4999 dwt tanker Kiyosato Maru and the 115 meter long, 6600 dwt bulk carrier JP Cosmos collided in Tokyo Bay near  Yokohama City, Japan.  The port stern section of the JP Cosmos had struck Kiyosato Maru’s bow.  Both vessels sustained damage, but there was no injuries or pollution released. The JP Cosmos was loaded with 6220 tons of coal while the JP Cosmos only had 2 tons of naphtha on board at the time of the incident. Both vessels were ordered to remain at anchor while authorities investigate the incident.

On May 3, the 158 meter long, 47290 dwt bulk carrier Hongwei 618 became disabled off Shidao, China. The bulk carrier had suffered engine failure and went adrift. The vessel contacted the authorities who dispatched the Bei Hai Jiu 118 to the scene. The Bei Hai Jiu 118 was attached a towline to the Hongwei 618 and proceeded to an anchorage off Shidao. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 225 meter long, 73613 dwt bulk carrier Julian allided with the quay in Durban, South Africa. Arriving from Xiamen, the Julian was attempting to berth when it struck the quay. No reports of injuries or pollution released. A coal loader on the quay sustained damage in the allision.
