The 187 meter long, 52980 dwt bulk carrier Star Harmony ran aground in the Bosphorus off Yeniköy, Turkey. The Star Harmony had departed from Odessa and was headed to El Dikheila with a cargo of 47,500 tons of corn when it suffered engine failure and ran aground just off the western shoreline. Authorities dispatched multiple tugs and patrol boats to the scene. Divers will inspect the hull for damage and tugs will begin salvage operations on the next high tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On December 2, the 169 meter long, 27776 dwt bulk carrier Antaios caught fire in the South Atlantic between Argentina and South Africa. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room which resulted in a hull breach and water ingress. The Antaios sent out a distress call that was received by the NSU Inspire. The NSU Inspire arrived on site and rescued the 19 crew. No reports of injuries. The NSU Inspire proceeded to Cape Town where the Antaios crew was to disembark. The status of the Antaios was not known.

The 225 meter long, 76807 dwt bulk carrier Nenita ran aground on the Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington. The Nenita had departed from Kalama fully laden with a cargo of grain when it suffered a power blackout and ran aground. The Nenita suffered damage in the forepeak resulting in water ingress. The crew was later able to bring the flooding under control and refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries. The Nenita was inspected and the bulk carrier proceeded to Kalama.  The Coast Guard conducted an overflight and found no pollution had been released.
