The 177 meter long, 33562 dwt bulk carrier Global Gold allided with a pier at Astoria, Oregon. The Global Gold was arriving in port with its cargo of lumber when it struck the pier suffering a four foot long gash in the hull near the stern.  The impact also ruptured a fuel tank spilling some 1000 gallons of diesel into the water.  Authorities responded and placed booms around the bulk carrier while the vessel’s crew applied absorbent pads around the area impacted by the spill. No reports of injuries. The Global Gold was detained in port until repairs could be completed.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 177 meter long, 33476 dwt bulk carrier El Condor Pas ran aground on the Bosphorus near Istanbul, Turkey. The vessel was loaded with 29000 tons of iron ore had ignored authorities warnings when it made a navigation error by making an early turn and grounding into shallow water.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  A tug was dispatched and was able to refloat the vessel a few days later.

On August 31, the 151 meter long tanker Paros Wind collided with the 180 meter long bulk carrier CS Jaden during the night near the north entrance to the Bosphorus Strait.  The Paros Wind, loaded with fuel oil, struck the port side of the CS Jaden which was laden with wheat.  Both vessels sustained hull damage, but no reports of injuries or pollution released.  Both vessels proceeded to an anchorage in the Black Sea off Türkeli, Turkey.
