The Dubai Energy was proceeding down the river from San Nicolas when it struck bottom blocking river traffic. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. This is the third bulk carrier this month to run aground near San Pedro. No reports of authorities dredging or imposing cargo restrictions at this time.
The 180 meter long, 35998 dwt bulk carrier Smew ran aground on the Parana River near San Pedro, Argentina. The Smew was en route to Callao, Peru from San Lorenzo, Argentina with 32000 tons of flour and soybeans when it stranded on the river. Traffic was halted on the river for several hours until the Smew was able to work itself free. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
On May 10, the 229 meter long, 82099 dwt bulk carrier United Fortune ran aground while loading cargo on the Parana River near Rosario, Argentina. The United Fortune had loaded over 43,000 tons of iron ore when the vessel struck bottom. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Tugs were requested to assist refloating the vessel.
