The 190 meter long, 19231 dwt bulk carrier Perth I became disabled on the Dardanelles, Turkey.  The Perth I was en route from the Ukraine with a cargo of corn when the vessel suffered engine failure. Authorities dispatched a tug to the scene where a towline was attached to the drifting bulker. The tug proceeded to tow the Perth I to a safe anchorage off Boğazı Kanarya Burnu. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Coral-Opal

The 186 meter long oil tanker Maersk Etienne collided with the 225 meter long bulk carrier Coral Opal in the Irbe Strait near Mikelbaka, Lativa.  The two vessels collided while doing a maneuver during the night resulting in both vessels being slightly damaged. The Coral Opal sustained damage to a ballast tank, but was allowed to proceed after a visual inspection. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Maerks Etienne was en route to Riga from Rouen while the Coral Opal was headed to Amsterdam from Riga.

On January 11, the 225 meter long bulk carrier Atlantic Erie ran aground in the Gulf of St. Lawrence the Ship Channel Grande-Entrée, Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. Fully laden with a cargo of salt, the Atlantic Erie was leaving Grande-Entrée when it stalled in windy conditions.  The bulk carrier was pushed by the winds onto a nearby sandbar. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The bulk carrier did suffer some minor damage.  Reports state efforts were arranged to tow the Atlantic Erie free of the sandbar.
