ORSULA

The 656 foot long bulk freighter Orsula went aground on Lake Ontario off Tibbetts Point, New York.  The bulker was en route to Montreal from Duluth with 21,000 tons of wheat when it was awaiting to enter the St. Lawrence River.  The river had more than 20 vessels queued due to an early freeze.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Local divers were requested and surveyed the vessel for any hull damage.  Tug and barges from Kingston have been dispatched to help lighter the Orsula.  Reports state the bulker has until December 30 before the St. Lawrence Seaway closes for the navigation season.

The 168 meter long, 26591 dwt bulk freighter Voyager K went aground while attempting to berth in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The Voyager K had arrived from Russia with 22,000 tons of wheat and remained at the outer anchorage.  The port authority attempted to berth the vessel, but the tide had receded and the Voyager K became stuck in the river.  Authorities state the vessel was expected to refloat itself on the following rising tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

BOGDAN

The 142 meter long, 13898 dwt bulk freighter Bogdan allided with a wall near the Iroquois Lock on the St. Lawrence River.  The Bogdan was attempting to slide the wall into the lock when it struck the wall and went crossways blocking the channel with her anchors.  Traffic was halted as the lock crew attempted to maneauver the freighter and clear the channel.  The Bogdan was secured the following day and tied-up awaiting inspection.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Bogdan was en route to Cork, Ireland.
