The 243 meter long,43618 dwt container ship MSC Monica ran aground on the St. Lawrence river near Deschaillons-sur-Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The MSC Monica had departed from Montreal when it ran hard aground after it had suffered rudder failure. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Three tugs arrived on scene and refloated the MSC Monica the following day. The MSC Monica proceeded to Quebec City for inspection.  Only minimal damage was reported.

On December 19, the 95 meter long, 4080 dwt fishing vessel Gordon Jensen ran aground near Bella Bella, British Columbia, Canada. The Gordon Jensen had stranded on the rocks, but was able to be refloated. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The fishing vessel proceeded to a shipyard at Ketchikan for repairs.

On November 30, the 42 meter long, 179 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Norcon Galatea ran aground near Pilley’s Island, Newfoundland, Canada.  The ferry was en route to Little Bay Islands with six passengers and five vehicles when it ran into issues and went aground. The ferry was able to refloat itself and returned to Pilley’s Island.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. A few days later reports stated the vessel was allowed to continue its normal operations.
